HR and People Operations Lead – (f/m/d – in Berlin)

Your mission
As the HR & People Operations Lead at MakerVerse, you will play a key role in managing our HR functions, including talent acquisition, payroll,  relations with German authorities (visa & tax matters), performance & development, and career progression frameworks. This is an exciting opportunity to – together with our founders - shape the HR function of a VC-backed startup.
You’ll manage HR & people operations while driving strategic initiatives that impact the company’s culture and growth. This role also includes overseeing our Talent Acquisition Specialist and our People & Culture Manager, giving you the chance to lead and shape HR practices as the business scales.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead recruitment efforts across all levels, especially for senior roles, while providing guidance to the TA Specialist on sourcing and selection best practices.
  • Manage, coach, and support the TA Specialist and People & Culture Manager to drive HR operations, employee engagement, and culture-building.
  • Serve as the primary HR contact for employee-related requests, addressing strategic and operational HR needs, and maintaining strong relationships with employees and managers.
  • Act as the main liaison with German authorities for work permits, visas, etc., while handling all processes efficiently.
  • Lead and Improve our Performance & Development initiatives to foster skill enhancement, career progression, and employee growth; collaborate with management to establish and communicate career paths across the company.
  • Oversee payroll and benefits processes, ensuring accuracy, timely distribution, and compliance with German labor laws.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, track key metrics, and update internal salary benchmarks to support data-driven decision-making and uphold internal equity.
Your profile
  • At least 5 years in an HR Manager, HR Business Partner, or similar role with expertise in  Compensation & Payroll, Performance & Development, and Talent Management within a Germany-based environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field. Relevant HR certification and a Master Degree are a plus.
  • Previous experience in recruitment is required. You should be able to independently lead recruitment processes and support the design, implementation, and execution of innovative assessment methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, autonomy, and proactivity. Familiarity with German labor regulations and experience in managing communications with German authorities is a plus.
  • Experience with LinkedIn Recruiter and Personio would be considered a valuable asset. Other tools we use: Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools such as Teams, Notion, and Slack.
  • Experience managing relationships with external suppliers (recruitment agencies, external vendors, etc.) is considered a plus.
  • Ready to work in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in similar environments like start-ups, consultancy or venture capital is a plus.
  • Fluency in German and English is a must have.
